Meet Bruce Jacobs, a dedicated and hard working member of our community ever since he decided to finally walk in the side door. He said he would walk by interested in what The Power House actually does, but didn’t think he could because he didn’t think of himself as an athlete or someone who would lift a barbell. I can tell you that he is definitely an athlete, and a great one at that.
He had found a passion for at home casual weight training during the off season of cross-country skiing. He was surprised with how quick he gained muscle and how recovery was easier during the off season. Then decided to come to The Power House for more guidance on his journey in lifting and that started it all.
After a few months being a member, Bruce said, “I have been astounded at how wonderfully every single coach is able to incorporate PVC drills that fit a complete novice like me, while satisfying the needs of experienced lifters. And then, transitioning me to alternate workout fitting my level of progression. I have never felt I was being moved too fast or pushed too hard. I have always felt I was getting precise and consistent advice to improve my skills to the next level.”
It has been amazing to see how Bruce Jacobs has grown over his time with The Power House. He was thoughtful to share how getting stronger and have more body awareness has helped him outside of the gym.
“For the first time in memory am able to sit on the floor with my back erect. My posture has noticeably improved, with certain benefits as I age,” Bruce states.
Not all our goals are to do with the weight we have on the barbell or the size dumbbell we are using or if we had a PR that day. It is not only about how we are feeling inside the gym while we are taking class, it is much more than that. To Win Your Life means all that and so much more than that, a win may look like what Bruce has experienced, simply just an improvement in his posture! Huge win!
Since Bruce is an avid cross-country skier, he has been able to see wins in his skiing since his time with The Power House. During his first ski of this winter, he was was able to eliminate his skiing pain he had last year. He calls it his “Power House “shoulders back” position”, a cue he has learned from our coaches during lifts and workouts. “Shoulders back = pain gone”, says Bruce. We are so thrilled that you, Bruce have been able to retain helpful cues, techniques and knowledge from the coaches at The Power House!
And just one more thing that Bruce told us, “Oh, and then I went for my first swim since shoulder fix on Saturday. Magic! I’m using my shoulders a whole new way for swimming too, and it works! Plus, I found the breast stroke is a great way to practice shoulder extensions….”
Thank you, Bruce for giving The Power House a chance and for being an awesome, dedicated member to our community! You always bring a positive light into the class. We are so very happy you now consider yourself an athlete like we always knew you were! We can’t wait to see all the many more goals and wins you crush! Bruce is a great example of what it means to Win Your Life!
